2-1-1 in our area:
With a 3 Year start up grant from the
Wiregrass Foundation, the Wiregrass United
Way launched our regional 2-1-1 program in
May. Serving a 7 county area, this
centralized method for organizing social
services information is more than just a
local info line. 2-1-1 provides callers with
information on a broad range of services,
including rent assistance, food banks,
affordable housing, health resources, child
care, after school programs, elder care,
literacy, and job training programs.
What's more, the 2-1-1 system will serve as
the community's primary information platform
regarding non-emergency disaster relief
efforts. With immediate access to
information and methods to direct resources,
our community will benefit in way we could
never have before. It has been said that in
much the same way 9-1-1 has saved lives, the
new 2-1-1 system and its trained specialists
will change them forever.
